Everything you wanted to know about backgammon – from how to play to winning tips
August 9th, 2010 by adminMany people think that it’s very complicated to learn how to play backgammon.
Backgammon is a game that combines luck and strategy – luck decides the rolling of the dice and how much each player can advance in a given move, and the strategy decides in what manner the pieces should be advanced while adapting to the opponent’s tactics.
In standard backgammon and in Dutch backgammon, both the board and the pieces are divided into two colors, either white and black or black and brown. The board is divided into 24 triangles called points, such that each black point Is adjacent to a white point and vise versa. In the game, the pieces are initially located on the opposite colors – for example a white piece would stand on a black point.
The objective is to bring the pieces to the inner home and then remove them – the first player to accomplish this task is the winner.

Movements are performed according to the rolling of the dice. At the first stage of the game, the goal is to bring the player’s pieces to the inner home, which is actually the opponent’s outer home. After all of the pieces are in the inner home the player can begin removing them, again according to the rolling of the dice.
In order to beat the opponent, you must recognize his strategy and choose a tactic that makes it more difficult for him.
If, for example, the opponent is using a tactic of construction, it’s best to use a tactic of evasion against it.
